They make you chuckle, they make you laugh, they make you feel great about life, and they make a lot of money doing it.
Jerry Seinfeld essentially starred in a show about absolutely nothing and it made him the top paid comedian in the hilarious world of comedy today. It’s reported that Seinfeld makes a whopping $60 million dollars over the course of one year, shooting him way ahead of David Letterman, who makes $40 million. Funny man Ben Stiller isn’t far behind, making a cool $38 million per year. Though these hilarious guys make much of their money from television shows and movies, stand-up routines help out quite a bit as well.
Take Dane Cook for instance. He has over 2 million myspace friends- that’s enough to be the fifth biggest city in the United States. He makes about 60% of what is brought in when he performs live stand-up acts. Currently, he has sold 20,000 tickets to his ‘Rough Around the Edges’ comedy tour in the first two weeks. Counting the many movies he has starred in and the revenue that he brings in as the new MLB spokes person, we’re definitely talking over six or seven figures. It seems that lately, everyone is hopping aboard the Dane train and with good reason. He’s hilarious and bringing in about $9 million dollars.
Also doing stand-up and making huge profits doing it is Larry the Cable Guy, who got his start on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Last year, the Nebraska-born comedian grossed $21.5 million in ticket sales. He also raked in $3 million from his "Git ‘R Done" merchandise as well as some $2 million from CDs. In total, Larry the Cable Guy pulled down $20 million over the course of the year.
Jeff Foxworthy isn’t doing too bad either. After making top dollar with the Blue Collar Comedy alum, he is currently hosting the show Who’s Smarter than a Fifth Grader? With merchandise and ticket sales, plus lets not forget about what made him famous in the first place- "You Might Be a Redneck If..." jokes which banked him $10 million.
