Tony DeZuniga, (November 8, 1932 – May 11, 2012), who was the first to draw DC Comics’ Jonah Hex, was also the first Filipino artist to break into the “Big Two” (Marvel and DC) in the 1960s, paving the way for an influx of talent in the 1970s. He passed away May 11, 2012 following a stroke the previous month. He was 79.
In addition to co-creating Jonah Hex and Black Orchid, DeZuniga illustrated such titles as Arak, Son of Thunder, The Phantom Stranger and Weird Western Tales at DC and Dracula Lives, The Savage Sword of Conan and Thor at Marvel.
In 2010 he collaborated with longtime Hex writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray on a Jonah Hex graphic novel, No Way Back.
