Marcus Desha Swayze, known as Marc Swayze (July 17, 1913 – October 14, 2012),
We are saddened to report that veteran comic book artist Marcus Swayze passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the age of 99. He drew Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family of characters for Fawcett Publications.
“In addition to drawing Captain Marvel, Swayze was the first to draw Mary Marvel. Mary, Billy's long lost sister, could also gain super powers by saying ‘SHAZAM!’” TheNewsStar.com said.
I was best friends with Marc and his wife for 20,” noted collector Keif Fromm said when he alerted us of Swayze’s passing. He described his friend as “…as an extraordinary comic book artist who not only co-created Mary Marvel, but was also an all-around wonderful person that will surely be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him.”
For many years I we were able to read his stories of the business in ALTER EGO magazine. We will sorely miss those great stories.
