Comic book culture is predominately displayed in pop culture, popularly showcased on TV and in blockbuster films. As auction prices keep rising, general media is paying more and more attention to the artistic industry.
In their new radio show, Walter Durajlija and Chris Owen plan to continue the trend. Based in Hamilton, Ontario, Durajlija is the President of Big B Comics, the 2008 Shuster Award winner for Canada’s Best Comic Shop and Chris Owen is a Professor of Comic History and Sequential Art at Hamilton’s Mohawk College. Their new talk radio show will be broadcast on Hamilton FM station 93.3 CFMU from 12:00 to 12:30 PM starting Wednesday, October 29, 2008.
Along with focusing on comics, the show, tentatively called Comics in the Mainstream, will also cover graphic novels, manga, comic related TV and movies. They will feature guests from the comic industry, as well as fans, local publishers, and educators. Durajlija and Owen plan to focus on promoting the merit of the comic medium and how significant comics are in today’s culture.
