According to legend, it’s been 25 years since a young boy named Xavier Roberts wandered into a magical cabbage patch and discovered Cabbage Patch Kids! To celebrate the kids’ 25th anniversary, the original Cabbage Patch dolls are being re-released for a limited time only! Each Cabbage Patch comes with a commemorative silver stamped birth certificate and adoption paper, as well as a “silver anniversary” baby spoon. As always, each comes with their own special name and birth date.
When the Cabbage Patch Kids were released in 1983, they revolutionized the doll making industry. Never before could a little girl or boy choose the sex, eye color, ethnicity, nose shape, freckles, mouth, teeth, hair color, and clothes, making the combinations endless!
Xavier Roberts first created the doll idea as an art student. He experimented with an almost forgotten art of cloth sculpting, creating what he termed as “Little People.” To his surprise, they were a success and in 1978 he formed the Original Appalachian Artworks Inc., using an old clinic in Georgia as a showroom and renaming it “Babyland General Hospital.” Today this is a great tourist draw, attracting thousands of visitors who come to see the babies being born, which are delivered from inside a mother cabbage by a uniformed nurse!
