Best known as Sam the Butcher on The Brady Bunch, Allan Melvin had a decades-long acting career. He has passed away at 84.

Also know for his recurring roles of Corporal Henshaw, one of Sgt. Bilko's men, on The Phil Silvers Show and Barney Hefner, Archie Bunker's friend on All in the Family, he also notably voiced Hanna-Barbera's title character in Magillia Gorilla for years.

His guest-starring turns took place on The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle: USMC and The Dick Van Dyke Show, among many others. His Internet Movie Database entry shows steady work, particularly in animation, through 1990.

According to the Associate Press, he is survived by Amalia Melvin, his wife of 64 years, a daugher, Jennifer Hanson, and grandson Jon Hanson, Jr. His daughter, Mya, predeceased him in 1970.
