If you saw Gravity, you probably remember this scene: Sandra Bullock's Ryan Stone, all alone in a Soyuz escape craft, makes radio contact with a man on Earth — but he's speaking a language she can't understand. Now you can find out who was on the other side of that conversation: an Inuit hunter in Greenland named Aningaaq.
Aningaaq is a seven-minute short film directed by Jonas Cuarón, the son of Gravity director (and recent red chair guest) Alfonso Cuarón (Jonas also co-wrote Gravity's screenplay and directed The Shock Doctrine, a short based on Naomi Klein's book). According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film was initially conceived as a Blu-ray extra feature, but following successful screenings at film festivals, Warner Bros. has submitted it for consideration for a short film Oscar too. As the film reveals, Stone wasn't the only one having a bad day — although Aningaaq's troubles get completely lost in translation.
